The first digital consultation will involve assessing your headaches. We’ll have a conversation to determine your goals for the follow-up. Some people just want to identify the cause of their headaches and receive a diagnosis, while others also want treatment and preventive measures.
We will try to accomplish as much as possible during the first consultation, including developing a plan for further follow-up. It may be necessary to consult with your primary care physician, neurologist, or radiology center to develop the best possible plan—with your consent, of course. If you haven’t already done so, it will usually also be necessary to start keeping a headache diary, as this can be crucial for making the correct diagnosis and tailoring further treatment.
If a physical examination has not already been carried out for your headache, or it is likely that important elements are missing, a physical examination will be necessary. A physical examination, blood tests, and/or an MRI scan are generally necessary to ensure an accurate diagnosis and rule out other causes. In that case, we will be able to contact your primary care physician, your local hospital, or an imaging center.
If we agree on further follow-up, it can also take place online. This is particularly relevant for those who live far from our clinic, but also for others who find it convenient to have the consultation online from home or at work. The exception is those who need closer follow-up with customized exercises and manual therapy, or if you have a headache diagnosis that requires regular physical examinations.
